リチャード・シャルティエ（1971年生まれ）は、ロサンゼルスを拠点に活動するアーティスト兼作曲家であり、ミニマリスト・サウンド・アートにおける主要な人物の一人と見なされています。彼の作品は、音の空間的性質、沈黙、焦点、知覚、そして「聴く」という行為そのものの間の相互関係を探求するものです。
批評家から高く評価されている彼の作品は、1998年以来、Room40（オーストラリア）、Touch / Ash International（イギリス）、Editions Mego（オーストリア）、Important Records（アメリカ）、PortraitsGRM（フランス）、mAtter（日本）、The Helen Scarsdale Agency（アメリカ）、Raster-Noton（ドイツ）、901editions（イタリア）、12k（アメリカ）、そして自身のレーベルであるLINE（アメリカ）など、世界各地のレーベルからリリースされています。
これまでに、ウィリアム・バシンスキー、ELEH、フランス・ジョバン、ロバート・カーゲンヴェン、テイラー・デュプリー、AGF、CoH、ヤン・ノヴァク、そしてドイツの電子音楽の先駆者であるアスムス・ティッチェンスらとコラボレーションを行ってきました。インスタレーション作品においては、マルチメディア・アーティストのエヴェリーナ・ドムニッチ＆ドミトリー・ゲルファント、ビジュアル・アーティストのリン・マイヤーズ、プロジェクション・ライト・アーティストのアンソニー・マッコールらと共同制作を行っています。また、クィアの感性を帯びた豊かなアンビエント・プロジェクト「Pinkcourtesyphone（ピンク・コートシー・フォン）」名義では、コージー・ファニ・トゥッティ、キッド・コンゴ・パワーズ、ハープ奏者のグウィネス・ウェンティンク、AGF、テルミン奏者のエヴェリーナ・ドムニッチらと共演しています。
シャルティエのサウンド作品やインスタレーションは、ホイットニー・ビエンナーレや、東京のNTTインターコミュニケーション・センター（ICC）で開催された影響力のあるサウンド・アート展「Sounding Spaces」など、世界各地の美術館やギャラリーで発表されてきました。また、ヨーロッパ、アジア、オーストラリア、北米各地でライブ・パフォーマンスも行っています。
2000年からは、影響力のあるレーベル「LINE」を主宰し、現代ミニマリズムの境界や美学を探求する国際的なアーティストによる作曲作品やインスタレーション作品を記録した180以上の作品をリリースしています。
2017年からは、実験音楽を紹介する自身のラジオ番組『Between Two Points』がDublab.comにて毎月放送されています。
Richard Chartier (b.1971) is a Los Angeles based artist / composer considered one of the key figures in minimalist sound art. Chartier’s works explore the inter-relationships between the spatial nature of sound, silence, focus, perception, and the act of listening itself.
Chartier’s critically acclaimed works have been published since 1998 on labels internationally including Room40 (Australia), Touch / Ash International (UK), Editions Mego (Austria), Important Records (US), PortraitsGRM (France), mAtter (Japan), The Helen Scarsdale Agency (US), Raster-Noton (Germany), 901editions (Italy), 12k (US), and his own imprint LINE (US).
He has collaborated with William Basinski, ELEH, France Jobin, Robert Curgenven, Taylor Deupree, AGF, CoH, Yann Novak, and German electronic music pioneer Asmus Tietchens. In installation form, he has created works with multimedia artists Evelina Domnitch & Dmitry Gelfand, visual artist Linn Meyers, and projected light artist Anthony McCall. As the lush Queer-tinted ambient project, Pinkcourtesyphone, he has collaborated with Cosey Fanni Tutti, Kid Congo Powers, harpist Gwyneth Wentink, AGF, and thereminist Evelina Domnitch.
Chartier’s sound works/installations have been presented in museums and galleries internationally including the Whitney Biennial and the influential sound art exhibit ‘Sounding Spaces’ at NTT/ICC in Tokyo. His performances have occurred live across Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America.
Since 2000, Chartier has curated the influential recording label LINE, publishing over 180 editions documenting compositional and installation works of international artists who explore the boundaries and aesthetics of contemporary minimalism.
Chartier’s experimental music radio show ‘Between Two Points’ airs monthly on Dublab.com since 2017.
